Work experience

  • The most relevant political media outlet in Uruguay is the weekly newspaper Búsqueda, where I worked for over a decade, first as a reporter and then as an editor, covering a variety of issues from political campaigns to government accountability. It’s still my biggest journalistic influence.

  • At the international video news agency Ruptly, based in Berlin, I coordinated breaking news coverage from all around the world, including support to reporters on the ground, gathering of user-generated content and open-source video verification.

  • As a freelancer I’ve been:

☑ local producer and fixer for VICE documentary, and Uruguayan correspondent for VICE news

☑ guest commentator for Deutsche Welle in Berlin on the topics of drug policy and the legalization of cannabis in Uruguay

☑ correspondent on a variety of political and cultural issues in media oulets from several South American countries

  • I’ve co-authored the Spanish-language book “Marihuana oficial”, a journalistic account of the process that led to Uruguay being the first country in the world to legalize cannabis nationwide. For the research, we conducted dozens of interviews, including former President José “Pepe” Mujica.

In 2018, “Marihuana oficial” won a Bartolomé Hidalgo Award.
